A meeting of two over-the-top pop minds was said a few years ago to have happened. As it is, Dion has shown herself game for a challenge, notably in a collaboration with Meat Loaf svengali Jim Steinman on the offbeat opus "It's All Coming Back to Me Now." All the Way... A Decade of Song is just what you'd expect of a multiplatinum seller's greatest-hits package, but it's also more. Displaying a generosity toward her fans, Dion cherry picks nine signature singles ("My Heart Will Go On," "Because You Loved Me," "Beauty and the Beast"), then fills the rest of the CD with seven new cuts when one or two would have done the commercial trick. Most of these are just what admirers and detractors would expect, and Sinatra lovers will hope that All the Way's title track is the last time his family allows an invented Frank-and-random-celebrity duet to take place. But the textures of "I Want You to Need Me" and "Live," while hardly understated, are more measured. They give hope that Dion may yet take herself to a higher artistic plateau, while still pleasing her millions of listeners.

These are the first recordings of late symphonies by G.B. Sammartini, ‘the father of the classical style’. Although Sammartini laid the foundations of the symphony his works are virtually unknown. In Italy the Arcadia Foundation seeks to correct this. The Sammartini project set out to publish and catalogue the composer’s works. Another aim is to perform and record previously unpublished works, including the late symphonies.
There are 68 symphonies attributed to Sammartini with certainty. Another 74 might be by him as well. This CD is the first of two volumes containing four late symphonies and a quintet. Stylish performances by the Accademia d’Arcadia on period instruments under Alessandra Rossi Lürig. These first recordings offer a most enjoyable and interesting insight into this unjustly neglected composer.

Of the works which Mozart composed for the outstanding Viennese clarinetist Anton Stadler (1753-1812), the Clarinet Quintet in A, K581, written in 1789, and the present Concerto in A, completed less than two months before the composer's death in 1791, are the crowning achievements. Work on the Concerto was started in 1789. Mozart originally intended the work to be for basset horn, but revised it for clarinet. However, the version widely known today differs from the work Mozart produced for Stadler, since the original version was written for an instrument with an extended bass compass that allowed Stadler to demonstrate his famed ability to play low notes. The transcription for standard clarinet (published ten years after Mozart's death) therefore requires an octave transcription of the notes that cannot be produced on it, which changes the color of the work. The first performance was given by Stadler on 16 October 1791, not in Vienna, but at his benefit concert in the Prague Theatre. It therefore seems certain that the composer never heard the composition that has become one of his best known. Cast in the usual three movements, the gentle, nostalgic lyricism of much of the Clarinet Concerto has drawn such epithets as "valedictory" and "autumnal," an assessment that downplays the extraordinary vigor and verve of this inspired work.
